Whisper Of God

I remember as a child, thought I heard God speak to me
Through all the crazy people with their authority, surrounding me
They’d tell me what to do but not in a quiet voice
They’d shout out His commands, forcing me to do this or
Be that, man, I didn’t have a choice
I escaped to the islands, there He spoke to me
I was sitting on the beach there just staring at the sea, feeling free
Then I heard His voice but not the way I would have guessed
Not the noise of volcano or hurricane wind, no
Something much greater.  Something much less

The sound of silence.  The noise of nothing
When the air took a stroll through all the palm trees
The sound of silence and the noise of nothing
I heard a whisper from God on a tropical breeze
On a tropical breeze, I heard the whisper of God

I can’t forget the moment when I heard Him speak to me
Not through all the people with religiosity, pushing me
On the beach or in the jungle.  On the waves or down below
Every time I’m in the islands, I hear Him, yeah
I can hear that whisper everywhere I go

The sound of silence.  The noise of nothing
When the air takes a stroll through all the palm trees
The sound of silence and the noise of nothing
I hear the whisper of God on a tropical breeze
On a tropical breeze, I heard the whisper of God

The whisper of God…
